The Texas Transition and Employment Guide was updated in 2025 and published on August 1, 2025.
LEA Requirements
In accordance with Texas Education Code §29.0112, each local educational agency (LEA) must:
- Ensure the updated Texas Transition and Employment Guide is available on the LEA website in both English and Spanish. The LEA can post links to the documents as posted on the Texas SPED Support website or upload the PDF to the LEA website.
- Provide written information and, if necessary, assistance to a student or parent regarding how to access the electronic version of the guide at:
- the first meeting of the student's admission, review, and dismissal committee at which transition is discussed; and
- the first committee meeting at which transition is discussed that occurs after the date on which the guide is updated; and
- On request, provide a printed copy of the guide to a student or parent.
Written Information
To share information about the guide with students and families, local educational agencies (LEAs) may develop a resource to meet the needs of their community. The Role of the Transition and Employment Designee (TED)
The TED plays an essential role in transition planning. If you are the TED for your school system, visit the TED collection to find resources and training available to support you in this role.

If you are supporting a student with disabilities in their transition to adulthood (as a family member, educator, representative from an agency that provides services to individuals with disabilities, or other supporter), talk to the TED for your school system.
To find your TED, search AskTED, the Texas Education Directory:
- At the top navigation bar, click “Search by” and select “District” in the dropdown.
- Type the name of your district.
- Check the radio button for “Personnel” for “Information Type.”
- Check the box for “Include Other District Roles.”
- Scroll down the list to select “TRANSITION & EMPLOYMENT DSIGNE”
- Click the “Search” button
