Priming is an antecedent strategy used to increase appropriate responding and reduce challenging behavior by preparing a student for upcoming tasks, transitions, or changes in routine. It involves presenting relevant information such as expectations, instructions, or materials before the activity occurs. In this example, the teacher uses priming to forewarn her students about the upcoming activity shift. - You guys got one more minute. (Daniel coos) What's up, Daniel? Just put the Inside Out toys back up. Lily, put your beans up. Lucy, put away your sand. - Not yet, not yet. - [Instructor] Here, she provides additional support by giving several students who may need extra guidance specific directions. This targeted support helps students stay on task and promotes a smooth and successful change to the next activity. (gentle music)
