PLAAFP Essential Elements
The PLAAFP Essential Elements document is designed to support educators in developing compliant, comprehensive, and meaningful present levels of academic achievement and functional performance (PLAAFP) statements.
Rooted in the requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), the document begins with the required impact statement as outlined in 34 CFR, §300.320(a)(1). This foundational component examines how a student’s disability affects involvement and progress in the general education curriculum and must be supported by measurable baseline data. The remaining essential elements focus on quality indicators that strengthen the overall effectiveness of the PLAAFP statement, resulting in a clear and accurate picture of the student’s current performance and needs.
