Importance of Universal Screening in Academics and Behavior
In this training, educators explore how universal screening fits within a broader assessment framework and a multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS). Designed for K–12 teachers, staff, administrators, and ESC staff, the course highlights the purpose, key components, and practical application of universal screening across academic and behavioral domains. Special attention is given to screening emergent bilingual (EB) students through linguistically responsive practices, as well as to state requirements and considerations for dyslexia screening. This training equips educators to use screening data effectively to make timely, data-driven decisions that improve instruction and outcomes for all learners.
By the end of this training, learners will be able to:
- Explain how universal screening fits within MTSS and the broader assessment
framework. - Identify key components of high-quality universal screening measures.
- Analyze and interpret screening data to inform decisions at multiple levels.
- Apply best practices for screening emergent bilingual (EB) students.
- Describe key features and requirements of dyslexia screening.

Coaching provides personalized, job‑embedded support grounded in four research‑based practices proven to strengthen instruction: alliance-building, observation, modeling, and performance feedback.
Educators and coaches complete a three‑step coaching cycle—pre‑observation, observation, and performance feedback—to reinforce training content and improve implementation. Coaching is designed to fit flexibly into your existing schedule and enhance your work, not add to it.
