- All behavior is communication, whether you're in a special-ed classroom or a gen-ed classroom. The first step is really viewing all behavior as communication. It's overwhelming as a gen-ed teacher to have a full caseload with lots of kids at different needs, and then having extreme behaviors thrown in there. So it's easy to feel overwhelmed or not knowing which strategies will work.
Use those special-ed teachers as your resource. They want to help and explain what things would work and wouldn't work. Make it an open dialogue. It takes a village and we need to all work together in order to cause behavior change in all settings.
