Transition is a Life-Long Process

- Transition is a lifelong process. It begins long before that and it continues long after students leave school. So while we formally begin to do that planning at age 14 or even earlier, we can always do it earlier than it's mandated. The vision for life after high school and the skills that are critical to have and the experiences begin long before middle school. So even when young people are early on in elementary, when we're talking about what they want to be when they grow up, that's part of good transition. And the more that we can help parents catch that vision for life after high school, the more they can make sure they're raising their son or daughter in ways that will lead to college or career or some other outcome that's important to them.
