Radius and Diameter
INSTRUCTOR: We're studying radius and diameter in class. Most students are able to complete this worksheet independently.
However, some students need additional supports.
I have another student who's with us for math that's only working on single digit addition. So I've adapted his worksheet to only include the ones that have radius of single digits.
I've given him a visual support where he chooses the number of the radius from an array of choices and puts them together on the visual support and then adds them together using the calculator.
I have another student who's working on the concepts of half and whole. So he's going to be sorting these cards into radius, which is half, and diameter, which is whole. I have color coded his supports for now, but we'll wean that off later.
I have another student who's with this for math that's working on increasing his communication with his peers, as well as learning left to right work system. So here we have a three part work system for the student, and he is our information czar and our peer tutor so that students if they're having difficulty can come ask this student for help, and they proceed through the sequence of their communication devices which are programmed to say the formulas we're using in class and an explanation of the radius being half and the diameter being whole.
In this video, the teacher explains how she differentiates a lesson on radius and diameter for students working at different skill levels. Watch as she talks about incorporating addition, fractions, communication, technology, and work systems into one lesson.
