Classroom Manual
(gentle music) - This is the classroom manual that I've created to use with my paraprofessionals. We each have a copy of the manual and we meet regularly and update the manual as needed. Currently, this is what it includes, our classroom philosophy, we presume competence, respect our students, maintain their confidentiality, honor their communication attempts, and try to proactively meet their needs. This section also includes a copy of our general classroom schedule. Each staff member has their own specific schedule that defines their roles and responsibilities for each part of the day, and each day is different because of the needs of our students. So here is mine, which also mimics the way I write my lesson plans. Paraprofessional one, paraprofessional two. We have a subnote here that gets attached to the schedule for the staff member who is absent and they follow that person's daily schedule. We also have copies of our routines that we do in the classroom to keep us all doing them the same way, consistently across staff members. Things like our sensory motor time, calendar, and journal writing. These same procedures for the routines are posted on the wall in the classroom near where the activity happens for a quick reference. I also include an overview of disabilities and how they may impact student learning, which helps the paraprofessional to understand our students and their needs. The manual also contains information and forms we use for data tracking, such as the queuing and prompting hierarchy, IEP tracking form, grading rubric, and other data collection sheets.
This video shows one educator reviewing the classroom manual she uses with her paraprofessionals.
