The Quarter 4 Bilingual ASL Academy on Monday, July 29, 2024, will focus on strategies in literacy skills using the Bedrock and Bilingual Grammar Curricula.

Reading, Writing, and Grammar Use: Strategies and Activities for the Continued Development of Literacy Skills using the Bedrock and BGC Curricula

In this full-day session, participants will deepen their understanding of the principles discussed in the Bedrock Literacy Curriculum and the Bilingual Grammar Curriculum (BGC). The morning session will discuss the role of inferring in reading comprehension and strategies to develop inference skills. The afternoon session will shift to writing and grammar instruction using the BGC, aiming for students to internalize skills and improve their writing quality through the effective use of editing checklists. This session is an extension of initial training on Bedrock Literacy and BGC. For information regarding initial training, email Kristin.

Kristin DiPerri, Ed.D.
Kristin DiPerri, Ed.D. is an independent educational consultant and literacy development specialist for students who are deaf or hard of hearing (DHH). She has presented numerous workshops and presentations throughout the U.S. and abroad to teachers of students who are DHH. For over 40 years, she has worked as a classroom teacher, a researcher, an instructor in the Deaf Education program at Boston University, and an English Literacy Coordinator at a residential school for the Deaf. She consults with several schools/programs in the U.S. and internationally to implement new literacy programming approaches to meet the diverse literacy needs of students who are DHH. She is the author of several instructional publications: five workbooks for students, the Bedrock Literacy Curriculum, and a co-author and co-owner with Todd Czubek, Ph.D., on the Bilingual Grammar Curriculum (www.bgcasl.org). She is the owner of Bedrock Literacy and Educational Services (www.bedrockliteracy.com).
