What Expectations Should I Have for My Student with Autism?

- Often we develop a strategy or a plan with a specific situation in mind, maybe how the behavior starts at the start of the year. And we start implementing the strategy and the behavior plan. But over time, we slowly start shifting our expectations. This happens slowly. So over time, we gradually start implementing this behavior plan with new behaviors or including other things in that behavior definition that we originally weren't. So all of a sudden, it's six months later, and our behavior plan looks completely different than it did in September. Now, it's not bad to change your plans. You should. But, you should be doing it purposefully and not on accident. So, we want to be aware of that accidental drift that happens over time, because we'll think something's working when maybe it's not. Often we come up with a plan that's specific to a behavior, but when that plan evolves, so should your expectations and purpose. Featuring Sasha Long, founder of the Autism Helper.
