What Does It Mean to Presume Positive Intentions?

(upbeat music) - One important feature of effective team collaboration is that everyone on the team presumes everyone's positive intentions. And let me just tell you what that means. It really means that no matter what else someone says or the tone in which they say it, we assume that that is an honest reflection of what they are thinking, and we don't ascribe some sort of ulterior motive to what they're saying. And what this does is it creates definitely a more positive energy, a more positive climate in which the team works, and it also encourages people to be honest in their communication.

In this video, Cheryl Jorgensen, an expert coach who leads teams towards inclusive education, discusses what it means to presume positive intentions. This video aligns with the Rubric of Effective Practices Quality Indicator II: Effective Teams.
